China's H1 power generation rose 3.8% YoY to 4,168 TWh, with thermal power up 7.5% while hydropower slumped 22.9%. In June alone, power generation rose 2.8% YoY to 739.9 TWh.
China churned out 390.09 Mt of raw coal in Jun 2023, rising 2.5% YoY, making the country's total raw coal output in H1 2023 reach 2.30 Bt, up 4.4% YoY, showed data from National Bureau of Statistics on Jul 17.
China Shenhua Energy Co., Ltd., the country's largest listed coal producer, said in its monthly operation report on Jul 15 that its commercial coal output rose 10.4% YoY and 2.6% MoM to 27.6 Mt in Jun; while coal sales increased 14.6% YoY and 0.8% MoM to 37.0 Mt.
China stressed ensuring energy and power supply in summer at a State Council executive meeting chaired by Premier Li Qiang on Jul 14. Safe and stable energy and power supply is vitally important to the national economy and people's well-being, said the meeting, calling for a high sense of responsibility to complete related works during the critical economic recovery and industrial upgrading period.
Qinhuangdao's coal stocks decreased 3.33% WoW to 5.58 Mt on Jul 14. The volume was 10.72% lower compared with the previous month and 9.27% lower than the year-ago level, Sxcoal's data showed.

Coal mines in Shanxi province have been instructed to conduct self-inspections on safety hazards before the end of July, as per a recent action plan from the provincial government. Supervisory departments will subsequently verify the effectiveness of these inspections. These strict safety measures are anticipated to impact coal production in Shanxi throughout the month.
Germany's hard coal imports reached 1.97 Mt in May, falling 28.70% YoY and 6.13% MoM, which was down for two straight months, according to preliminary data from German Statistics Bureau.

Japan's utility Kyushu Electric Power plans to restart its 890-MW Sendai No.2 nuclear reactor on Jul 18 to further ensure power suppy in peak summer demand period. Normal operation is schelded to start in mid-Aug.
East China's Anhui province registered a yearly growth of 6.2% in power consumption to 147.73 TWh in H1, according to Anhui Energy Bureau.
